The Strength of the Few

The transition through the Labyrinth leaves Vis replicated across three worlds: Obiteum, Luceum, and Res. The novel follows all three versions of him as simultaneous protagonists. Each retains his history but wakes to a different immediate reality, so no single world serves as the sole continuation of his story.

In Obiteum, Vis follows Caeror through Qabr and toward Duat, learning how Will is used to create and control the revived bodies called iunctii. The Concurrence, the Gleaners, and the threat of another Cataclysm shape this strand. In Luceum, another Vis wakes far from the Republic among people whose language and political order are unfamiliar to him. His connection to a silver arm and his developing status as a draoi nasceann draw him into local conflicts.

In Res, the third Vis remains in Caten after Callidus's death as divisions within the Hierarchy turn into open violence. His relationships with Ulciscor, Relucia, Eidhin, and the competing branches of the Republic force him to decide what he will protect and what he is willing to reveal. The separation among the worlds is not absolute: the Luceum Vis is later carried into and out of Caten in Res, directly establishing that movement between at least two of the realities is possible.
