Livesuit

Kirin Foss, a member of the livesuit infantry, reflects on his journey into military service and the ongoing interstellar war against an alien force. His team is tasked with destroying a bridge-like structure that serves as a hive colony for the enemy. Despite initial setbacks, including Kirin's injury, the team successfully completes the mission, though not without casualties and the realization of the brutal nature of the war.

Back on the slip boat, Kirin receives a personal message from his former lover, Mina, who has passed away. The revelation that she was involved with an anti-military faction leaves Kirin feeling uneasy and questioning the purpose of his service. The chapter also explores the dynamics within Kirin's team, highlighting the camaraderie and the challenges of maintaining morale in the face of constant danger and loss.
